Course Description:
The purpose of the Hazardous Materials Awareness/Operations course is to provide entry level emergency responders with the knowledge and skills to meet the minimum job performance requirements as outlined in NFPA 472. Candidates must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and effectively identify hazardous materials make the necessary notifications, perform scene isolation, public protection actions and defensive control measures at hazardous materials incidents. To obtain certification candidates must complete all practical skills, score at least a 70% on the state written exam and meet ALL prerequisites prior to testing. Candidates should expect to spend practice and study time outside of class to prepare for the written examination.
Prerequisites:
Involved in emergency response, code enforcement, fire education, teaching fire science or fire investigation
