This Porter County Recruit Firefighter Academy will consist of training and certification in the following:

Mandatory Firefighter

CPR

Hazardous Material Awareness/Operations

Firefighter I/II

Technical Rescue Awareness

Students must attend and complete all class work and practical skills to be eligible for testing.

The course will meet twice a week from 6p-10p and on Saturdays from 8p-4p as needed for approximately 6 months.

Department Sponsorship is mandatory to attend and register

Advanced Firefighting Program (2 Day)

This training is applicable to all firefighters that respond to structure fires. This is a hands-on class. Students will spend minimal time in a classroom. It is recommended that attendees be certified to the Firefighter I level and be in reasonable good physical condition.

 Course Overview


This course is based on NFPA 1021 Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications (Chapter 5). The course is designed for the fire officer who is ready to assume more of a leadership role by moving into the middle management level of his/her department. This course expands on the knowledge base attained in Fire Officer I by revisiting some of the same subjects and adding additional material including management, government structure, and departmental budget planning and management.

The District 4 Training Council is pleased to announce a pilot EMT-B class will be offered in the District and will start Tuesday, September 5th, 2017 promptly at 6:00 pm.  The District council has put a stipulation on signing up for this class.  You need to be sponsored from a Fire Department.  You need to have a letter from the department stating that you are on the department, going to be put on the department after class is done, or applying for the fire department.  This letter needs to be on a department letterhead and signed by the Chief of the Department or an officer that the Chief has appointed to sign.  Please have contact information for the person that signed it.  This can be scanned and emailed to district4firetraining@gmail.com or call 765-206-0607 if you are not able to scan.  Please leave a message if no answer.  

If you do not have a PSID you will need to go to http://www.in.gov/dhs/3880.htm and sign up for one.

The class will cover the state material for the EMT Basic certification.  For this class the student will be responsible for buying the book and a shirt that is will be used in the ER and Ambulance ride time.  The book that is being used isEmergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured (Book & Navigate 2 Essentials Access) 11th Edition and can be found on www.amazon.com or http://www.jblearning.com.  The book is around $100 to $130 depending where buy it from.  You can also buy the online version of the book if wanted but will be more money.  The t-shirt will be ordered the first day of class and will need to be paid for that day.  The shirt should not be more than $20 - $25 depending on sizes.  

Classes will be held on Tuesday's and Thursday's starting at 6:00 pm and will also have Saturday’s.  This is a very aggressive schedule to finish up before the Christmas Holiday and the end of the year.  The Official class calendar will be issued the first night of class.

There might be a few date changes as the class goes on depending on how the class progresses.  All testing will be online at Ivy Tech and will cost $25 max.
